Not where you would want to be in life? A psycho-emotional journey to fulfillment

I’ve found myself in states of deep dissatisfaction many times in the past, and then I’ve managed to pull myself out of them successfully. This time, I documented my journey from a state of complete dissatisfaction to a much more productive and positive state of mind. I hope that sharing this journey will be helpful to you as well.

I notice that I am in a loop of dissatisfaction. A nagging feeling, that I should be somewhere else in life than where I currently am. “I should have my own company, a partner, children, a house by the lake, more followers on my social media profile…”

I believe that once I have these things — then I will be fulfilled.

I remember having this train of thought before. I have felt this same nagging dissatisfaction and the accompanying idea that “I would be happy if I had ‘this, and this and this’ ”.

Reflecting further, I remember some of the things that I thought would bring me happiness in the future — and I notice that many of those things and events have already happened and that I have them in my life today.

So then the question is: why am I not happy and fulfilled if I already possess the very things that I believed would bring me happiness in the future?

It’s because dissatisfaction is a state of mind.

I could have all the things a human ever could dream of, and even more, and still I could feel dissatisfied with my life. It’s not the external circumstances that will make me satisfied, it is my ability to appreciate what I have here, now.

So I remind myself of what I have: a beautiful home, physical health, meaningful relationships, a job I enjoy, and an incredible mind that can freely reflect on this remarkable human experience. I do not lack anything if only I can appreciate all the things that I do have.

So, just as dissatisfaction is a state of mind, so is satisfaction. Loving and appreciating what you already have is the key that opens the door to this beautiful mental space.

So unlock the door and go enjoy your life!
